This course, "Celebrations: Stencil Techniques" was comprised of several lessons about stencils: painting and stamping with; creating my own from dies and cardstock; using paste with. The lesson I am highlighting here is the lesson about using paste and coloring the paste with Altenew dye inks.
The stamped images were created with the Altenew stamp and die set "Bamboo Rose" and the sentiment was created with the Altenew stamp "Label Love." I stamped the roses and leaves with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and I stamped the sentiment with Versafine Claire Nocturne pigment ink. I used Altenew Artist Markers in Desert Night, Ocean Waves and Sea Glass for the flowers and Frayed Leaf and Forest Glades for the leaves. These colors were taught by Lydia Evans in her Altenew Academy Featurette "Beautiful Bamboo Roses" and I chose to stay with that combination because it is so pretty and it makes me happy. I then die-cut the images.
I eventually created more flowers and chose not to use the butterfly as I arranged and rearranged the flowers to find the composition I wanted. I then adhered the sentiment and flowers to the cardstock with 1/16th inch foam tape. The card front was mounted on a top folding A2 size 110 pound Neenah Solar White cardstock.
I decided not to add any sequins as the card was already very busy.
With this course, I learned that stenciling is another way to bring variety into my card making and expand the function of the supplies I already have on hand.
I began with Ranger Opaque Matte Texture Paste with dabs of Altenew Pure Graphite dye ink on a craft pad |
I mixed the paste with the dye ink until the color was right. This mixture was then pushed, with a spatula, onto cardstock through the Altenew stencil "Splatter Stencil" |
This is a close-up section of the stenciled results. All of the detail dries into a soft, textured and dimensional design. |
