Cindy Brown - Masking Unleashed

I created this card using the skills I gained from my most recent Altenew Academy course "Masking Unleashed." Masking is a technique used to prevent an area of a card from being colored. Through this course, I was able to get more information about how to use paper and adhesive masking (including a how-to for wet mediums). I also got to learn how to use masking fluid, which is now my favorite method for masking.  I selected a flower and sentiment from the Altenew stamp set "Wonderland" and I used the Altenew Artist Marker set D to color the flower.

I began with Ranger watercolor paper, cut to 4.25 X 5 inches and I used Altenew Permanent Black Ink to stamp the flower. I then used the Altenew Artist Markers in Emerald, Volcano Lake, Cosmic Berry, Purple Wine and Puffy Heart to color the flower. These colors match the other Altenew products with the same name. I then wanted to mask the flower and at this point I used Nuvo masking fluid with a silicone brush to cover the stem and the edges of the flower to prepare for the next step. The masking fluid quickly solidified.

The next step was to use a watercolor wash of "Warm Sunshine" from the Altenew watercolor 36 pan set. Once dry, I then removed the mask which came off very easily and did not damage the paper at all.
I trimmed the edges around the paper and I stamped and heat embossed the sentiment from the Wonderland set. The sentiment is a play on words by Dr. Seuss which I think went perfectly with the playful flower. I then adhered my card to an A2 top-fold card base using 1/4 inch Scor-tape. I then added matching jewels for embellishment.
